Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 13 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that Russia has no reason to oppose Ukraine in becoming a member of Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

The premier spoke at the press conference on the outcomes of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, held on Sunday (Nov 13) in Phnom Penh.

The premier said ASEAN has her own position. ASEAN is not a puppet of any country but work with all dialogue partners. I do not think Russia has any reason to oppose ASEAN's acceptance of Ukraine.

TAC was established in 1976 and embodies universal principles of peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperation among States in Southeast Asia. It is a legally-binding code for interstate relations in the region and beyond.

ASEAN agreed to extend the TAC to include Ukraine during the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits. Similarly, six other states, namely Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, Oman, Qatar and United Arab Emirates, have signed on the TAC during the 55th AMM and Related meeting last August, bringing a total of 510 countries that are parties to this Treaty.
