Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 12 – United Nations (UN) secretary general Antonio Guterres called on Myanmar authorities to release all political prisoners, speaking on Saturday morning (Nov 12) at the press conference held in Phnom Penh.

Antonio Guterres said we need to push ASEAN Five-point Consensus. We trust Indonesian president to deal with the issues to be finally achieved, to restore democracy, to release political prisoners, and to end violations in Myanmar. We believe that ASEAN-UN will push forward the agenda in positive ways and our special envoy is ready to cooperate with ASEAN special envoy to create conditions favorable for democratic transition and to end the suffering of the people of Myanmar.

Considering that the situation in Myanmar remains critical and fragile, with growing violence as a major concern which affects not only Myanmar but also ASEAN's Community-building efforts, ASEAN is committed to assist Myanmar in finding a peaceful and durable solution to the current crisis.
