Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 11 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and his Lao counterpart Phankham Viphavanh encouraged their respective relevant authorities, at the central and local levels, to perform their duties with a high sense of responsibility to ensure peace and stability in the border areas.
“Both premiers encourage their respective relevant authorities, at the central and local levels, to perform their duties with a high sense of responsibility to ensure peace and stability in the border areas between Cambodia and Laos and to transform it into a border of lasting peace, friendship and cooperation,” according to the outcomes seen by Fresh News on Friday (Nov 11).
The two leaders were pleased with the outcomes of the 14th Meeting of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) and reiterated the importance of promoting bilateral ties to increase trade and investment. Both sides encouraged relevant authorities to effectively and timely implement the signed documents on energy cooperation.
Both leaders noted with pleasure that both sides have achieved approximately 86% of the common land boundary and agreed to task the Cambodia-Laos Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to finalize the draft Treaty on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in order to be signed during the visit of premier Hun Sen to Laos next year.
Both leaders also agreed to further promote regular high-level visits and meetings between the two countries’ leaders, respective ministries, institutions and local authorities to boost cooperation in various areas as well as to enhance the Cambodia-Laos traditional bond of friendship.
