Banteay Meanchey (FN), Oct. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that without Khmer-Khmer negotiation, in particular Sihanouk-Hun Sen Negotiation, Paris Peace Agreement would not exist.
The premier spoke in a meeting with flood victims in Banteay Meanchey on Sunday morning (Oct 23).
"The first talk [Sihanouk-Hun Sen Negotiation] was held at Fère-en-Tardenois on 2 December 1987, which paved way for national reconciliation," the premier said.
"If there were no domestic talks, Paris Peace Agreement would not exist. The establishment of the Supreme National Council was an important process contributed to the establishment of Paris Peace Agreement. It was done by Khmer not the outsider," the premier added.
On 23 October 1991, the four parties of Cambodia, including Cambodian late king father Norodom Sihanouk, representing pro-Sihanouk movement; Khmer People's National Liberation Front represented by Son San; the Democratic Kampuchea represented by Pol Pot; and the Cambodian government represented by premier Hun Sen and Heng Samrin, came together and signed the peace agreement in Paris to end the civil war in Cambodia as witnessed by leaders from 18 countries, including the UN secretary-general.
