Kandal (FN), Oct. 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the only thing that convict Sam Rainsy won in his defamation case is the fact that he was not required to pay the plaintiff even one euro, but all the other parts of the court’s decisions showed Hun Sen’s victory.
The premier spoke during a press conference after editing his date of birth information in voting list on Thursday (Oct 20) at Takhmau city, Kandal Province.
"In the verdict, the court said Hun Sen is a prime minister and Rainsy is an ordinary citizen. Therefore, Rainsy is tolerated by not required to pay compensatory damage of one Euro. Of course, I did not want this one euro. I am satisfied with the court’s ruling, which stated the facts [that Hun Sen is not behind the death of Hok Lundy],” the premier underscored.
The French court’s verdict stated as follows: (1) premier Hun Sen is not a mastermind behind the death of former police chief Hok Lundy; (2) Sam Rainsy had indeed defamed premier Hun Sen; (3) regarding the evidences provided by Sam Rainsy, the court considered that they did not contain specific elements demonstrating that the cause of the accident was an explosion.
Sam Rainsy posted on his Facebook and spoke on the US-backed radio VOA, baselessly accusing prime minister Hun Sen of (1) masterminding the killing of former national police chief Hok Lundy; 2) making lies on the cause of Hok Lundy’s death.
