Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 10 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen recalled the bitter past experience caused by the war, speaking in the closing ceremony of the conference of Cambodia Scouts, held on Monday afternoon (Oct 10) at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.
"This is unfortunate for our country since 1970, when the country was torn apart by war. At that time, not only did our country be divided into different areas of control and clashes, but there were also division at the UN and international forums," the premier underscored.
The premier reiterated that the war did not only destroy the nation, but also the unity of Cambodian National Scouts Movement, Cambodian Red Cross and other movements. They completed each other to get international recognition.
Samdech continued, “From 1970 to 1975, the Lon Nol regime hold the seat in the United Nations. At that time, it was interpreted that the Lon Nol regime ruled the capital. From 1979 to 1991, they interpreted differently, and we still could not hold the seat even though we took over the capital. So, I would like to remind you that politics goes with the benefits. I still insisted that there are no factual standards, but sports have.”
On that occasion, Samdech repeatedly reminded that the kingdom shall avoid war.
