Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 4 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked visiting Cuban prime minister Manuel Marrero Cruz to boost health sector cooperation between the two countries.
Both leaders had a bilateral meeting on Tuesday (Oct 4) at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.
Cuban premier thanked the kingdom for the warmest hospitality. He briefed premier Hun Sen the general situation in Cuba, including COVID19 management and Cuba’s economic situation.
Manuel Marrero Cruz vowed to foster Cambodia-Cuba relations and cooperation and pledged to implement all the signed documents that will further expand the bilateral cooperation in sports, education, and culture.
Premier Hun Sen agreed with his Cuban counterpart's proposals and praised Cuba’s extraordinary COVID vaccine success.
As Cuba remains the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean to have produced a homegrown shot for COVID, the premier asked Cuba to consider boosting health cooperation with the kingdom and sectors like sports, investment and media.
Around 86% of the Cuban population has been fully vaccinated against COVID with three doses, according to official statistics compiled by Our World in Data.
