Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen warned the residents living in Angkor area not to bargain the compensation with the authority, speaking in the graduation ceremony of nearly 4,000 students of Vanda Institute, held on Monday (Oct 3) at OCIC, Phnom Penh’s Chroy Chongvar district.

“Now the government is pleased to request the residents to move to new well-prepared area with proper compensation. However, when the time comes, those families that refuse to move will not get even a cent of compensation,” the premier warned.

The government commits that Angkor Wat shall not be removed from the World Heritage List.

In August 2022, minister of land management Chea Sophara in cooperation with relevant ministries and authorities organized a campaign to resolve the problem of illegal construction in the Angkor area and other regions. This campaign came after Cambodia received a red alarm from UNESCO to remove Angkor Wat from the World Heritage List given that the residents settle anarchically surrounding Angkor area.
