Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 3 – The ASEAN foreign ministers expressed common concern over the ongoing tension in the Taiwan Strait and urged parties concerned to have constructive dialogue in order to bring back normalcy.

Secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kung Phoak spoke at the press conference on Wednesday (Aug 3) evening.

"Regarding the Taiwan Straits, ASEAN has also expressed concern about the escalation of tensions, which if not properly managed, will lead to miscalculations as well as the tension build-up between stakeholders," Kung Phoak underlined.

"Therefore, we (ASEAN) urge all concerned parties to refrain from provocation or take any actions that escalate the tension; and to try their best to ease the tension by initiating constructive dialogue to bring back normalcy," he added.

Cambodia adheres to the “One China” policy and key documents, which agreed by all parties. They shall be fully implemented to stabilize relations between the parties involved in the Taiwan Straits.

The tensions arose after US house speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.
