Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 2 – Japanese foreign minister Yoshimasa Hayashi will participate in the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings on 3 August 2022, according to Embassy of Japan in Cambodia.
During his visit, he will pay a courtesy call on Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and hold bilateral meeting with Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn to promote Cambodia-Japan relations.
Yoshimasa Hayashi expressed his deepest gratitude to the government and people of Cambodia for their condolences on the passing of former Japanese prime minister [Shinzo] Abe by having flag flown at half-staff nationwide, and sending condolence letters and messages. He was touched by such warm action.
During this visit, he reaffirmed the strong Cambodia-Japan relationships. When the Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida paid a visit the kingdom in March 2022, the two leaders issued a joint statement, indicating the direction of future bilateral cooperation.
The foreign minister continued that Japan would work together with the kingdom to materialize the cooperation as stated in the joint statement. During this visit, he will have a bilateral talk with Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn, in particular on the progress development of the kingdom’s Sihanoukville port and the security cooperation.
Lastly, Yoshimasa looks forward to taste Cambodian cuisine namely Amok. He is a fan of Cambodian cuisine and he also frequently visits Cambodian restaurants in Tokyo. On that occasion, he also wished for the success of the 55th AMM and related meeting as well as the further development of Cambodia-Japan friendship cooperation.
