Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 12 – Candlelight Party vice president Son Chhay, on Tuesday, appeared at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) to clarify on the complaint filed by the National Election Committee (NEC).
Senior official of the PPMC told Fresh News earlier Tuesday.
Chhay will also appear in court on 15 July 2022 to clarify on the complaint filed by the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).
On 14 June 2022, the CPP sued Son Chhay over allegations and distortions surrounding the 5th mandate communal election. The CPP sought legal action and demanded USD 1 million in compensation. The lawyer representing the CPP Ky Tech highlighted some remarks of Son Chhay speaking on media outlets, which were considered fraudulent, misrepresented, fake information, ill-intended purpose to seriously damage the reputation of the CPP who won the election.
On 17 June 2022, NEC filed a complaint against Son Chhay for public defamation and requested him for a public apology.
