Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 6 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen agreed with the request of citizens to allow the existing right-hand drive vehicles with unpaid duty to be able to pay tax without changing their vehicles over to left-hand drive.
The premier spoke in a meeting with Cambodian ASEAN Para Games athletes prior to their departure to Indonesia, held at the Peace Palace on Wednesday (Jul 6).
"I agree with your request. You can pay taxes without wheel changed and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport will later issue license plate,” the premier underlined.
Samdech also confirmed that the validity of this permit is on 6 July 2022 only. From tomorrow onward, the newly imported right-hand drive vehicles will not be allowed in the kingdom.
As of 30 June 2022, Cambodia earned more than USD76 million from the tax and customs revenue collected from the right-hand drive vehicles and car owners who take refuge under various license plates, director general of Cambodian General Department of Customs and Excise told Fresh News on 1 July 2022.
