Banteay Meanchey (FN), Jul. 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the election victory of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) reflected the citizens' support for peace and development.
The premier spoke on the 18th National Fish Day, held on Friday (Jul 1) in Banteay Meanchey province.
"Thanks to our citizens who voted for the CPP. It means you vote for peace and development,” the premier underlined.
Samdech continued that the success of the 5th communal election reflects the regular process of multi-party liberal democracy in Cambodia.
"I would like to thank all citizens who participate in the election regardless of which party they vote for,” said the premier, adding that the CPP won more than 80 percent of the total seats.
On that occasion, premier Hun Sen also thanked citizens for entrusting CPP to continue leading both the national level and the sub-national level and he hoped that citizens will also support the CPP in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
The 5th mandate communal election was held on 5 June 2022, having at least 7.3 million people went to vote, an equivalent to 80.19 per cent of the registered voters. The CPP won 9,376 communal councilor seats from the election and won 1,648 commune chief seats, according to official result released by the National Election Committee on 26 June 2022.
