Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 30 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked Japan to assist Cambodia in Judo martial arts in order to ensure the kingdom is capable to compete in the upcoming SEA Games 2023.

The premier spoke during a courtesy call by former Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Gotaro Ogawa (2000-2003) on Thursday (Jun 30) at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, the premier asked Gataro to assist Cambodia in Judo martial arts, preparing to compete in the upcoming SEA Games 2023, according to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth.

On this occasion, Gotaro informed the premier that he was excited to return to Cambodia to witness the kingdom’s rapid development and see so much positive differences compared to 2003 when he left the kingdom.

Gotaro congratulated the premier's wise leadership.

Gotaro said although he completed his diplomatic mission in the kingdom long time ago, his heart always remains in Cambodia. For instance, he still provides training to Cambodian students on language, research, culture, law, and Judo martial arts.

In response, premier Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to Gotaro for his active contribution to strengthen and expand Cambodia-Japan relations as well as Cambodia’s development in particular on the Human Resources training and capacity building, which is top a priority of the government's policies.
