Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked Japanese defense minister Kishi Nobuo to further promote Cambodia-Japan defense ties.

Kishi Nobuo paid a courtesy call on premier Hun Sen on Wednesday (22 Jun) at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

Kishi Nobuo said he is pleased to meet with the premier during his working visit to Cambodia to attend the ASEAN-Japan Defense Minister Meeting in line with the 30th anniversary of the deployment of Japanese peacekeeper to Cambodia, according to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth.

Kishi Nobuo informed the premier that he is pleased to expand bilateral cooperation with Cambodia through exchanging information with Cambodian defense leaders on counter-terrorism, human resource training, peacekeeping, disaster management and engineering.

Kishi also voiced his support on the leadership of Cambodia in solving the Myanmar’s crisis, in particular the five-point consensus.

In response, premier Hun Sen voiced his support on the existing cooperation and requested to further promote the active Cambodia-Japan Bilateral Cooperation Plan, such as the exchange visits of officers and leaders at all level, capacity training for Cambodian army on humanitarian work and disaster relief, and other courses.
