Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen thanked the people and the government of Japan for providing nearly 1 million doses of COVID19 vaccine to Cambodian people and the government.

The premier spoke at the handover ceremony of the first package of 332,000 doses of Japan-aided AstraZeneca at Phnom Penh International Airport on Friday.

Cambodia expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Japan for their continuous assistance in combating the COVID19.

"The donation of 1 million doses of vaccine from Japan is a new testimony that reflects the gestures of kindness, generosity and high responsibility of Japan to support countries whose resources are still limited in the battle against COVID19."

"With the above assistance, Cambodia will have a total of 18 million vaccines to inoculate people aged 18 and above as well as children aged 12-17," the premier added.

Premier Hun Sen wished Japan success in all their endeavors.

As a part of the efforts of the Government of Japan to counter COVID19 infections worldwide, Japan is pleased to provide Cambodia with approximately one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine that has been manufactured in Japan. The first batch contains around 330,000 doses, arrived in Cambodia on 23 July 2021 and the remaining doses will arrive over the next few weeks.
