Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 4 – Sik Bun Hok, Chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC), requested for resignation on 1 June 2021 due to health issues and was later approved by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Friday morning.
The approval was confirmed at a Friday meeting chaired by National Assembly President Heng Samrin.
National Assembly spokesman Leng Peng Long told Fresh News that Sik Bun Hok had requested to resign three days ago due to illness.
The Standing Committee also approved a draft decision on the recruitment process of a new candidate to replace Sik Bun Hok.
Peng Long added that the selection must be done within five days, and according to the law, the ruling party is eligible to nominate qualified candidates.
