Phnom Penh (FN), May 25 – Vaccine equity is the biggest moral test before the global community, Suos Yara, Chief Strategy of Commission of External Relations at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), delivered remarks at the 2nd Special Video Conference on COVID19 Pandemic, held on 25 May 2021, focusing on “Building a More Effective Regional and Global Response to Covid-19 Pandemic.”

“Progress on vaccinations has been wildly uneven and unfair. The COVID19 pandemic has shown that global manufacturing capacity is not sufficient to deliver vaccines and other essential health products quickly and equitable to where they are needed most.”

H.E Suos Yara also touched on Cambodia COVID19 situation. Cambodia saw a new community spread which has since infected more than 20,000 people and killed 156 people, prompting the Royal Government to implement strict lockdown measures, intended to save lives, in Phnom Penh and other cities for three weeks. The good news is that more than two million Cambodians have now been vaccinated.

“Cambodia is one of the first country which prioritizes inoculation for teachers, with the military participated in distributing emergency food supplies to the people. As a small country with a big heart, Cambodia has also provided vaccines to foreign diplomats and expats in Cambodia,” he underlined

In this 2nd videoconference, members of the ICAPP and observers have been invited to participate in the discussions. Representatives of international organizations are also invited to share best practices, case studies and technical advice.

Observers including the Council of African Political Parties (CAPP), Permanent Conference of Political Parties in Latin America and Caribbean (COPPPAL), Asia Europe Political Forum (AEPF), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), International Vaccine Institute (IVI), World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank have also been invited to speak during the conference.
