Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 19 – Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn informed Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar that Cambodia requested to purchase 5 million COVID19 vaccine doses with 1 million doses in the first phase.
The request was made in a telephone conversation between top diplomats of the two countries on 18 February 2021.
Cambodia decided to purchase COVID19 vaccine from India because the two countries have enjoyed history of closed relations and Cambodian people trust Indian medical care and health services which are affordable and efficient.
In response, His Excellency Jaishankar said India regards Prime Minister Hun Sen as an outstanding figure and respectful leader and that he will forward the Cambodia's request to purchase India’s vaccine to H.E. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged to do his best to assist Cambodia to meet her demand.
