Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 15 – Cambodia detected three cases of new COVID19 variant, according to the Ministry of Health's press release dated 15 February 2021.
The South African variant was found in a 28-year-old Indian man and a 23-year-old Indian woman returning from India through Singapore's flight to Cambodian on 3 February 2021.
Another infected patient is a 26-year-old Chinese woman returning from China through South Korea's flight to Cambodia on 7 February 2021.
The new variant spreads faster and there is no clear evidence the variant is associated with more severe disease or worse outcomes, according to the South African scientists.
The Ministry of Health called on citizens to practice preventive health measures set out by the ministry, including washing hands, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing.
To date, Cambodia has confirmed 482 cases of COVID19 with 469 recoveries and no death.
