Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 2 – Huawei Cambodia supports the 2021 Community Project of Department of International Studies (DIS), which is one of department of Institute of Foreign language from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) under the theme of “Together Narrowing Digital Gaps”. The handover ceremony took place at Huawei Cambodia Exhibition Center that presided over by Dr. Neak Chandarith, Head of the Department of International Studies and the leader of this community project.

Community Support 2021 is a project initiated by the Department of International Studies, Institute of Foreign Languages, the Royal University of Phnom Penh. The project aims to support two rural high schools in Cambodia, including Sok An Samrong High School and Hun Sen Chan Thnal High School, by donating necessary educational technological equipment and providing training for teachers and students on digital literacy and 21st century education. This equipment donation and training provision will allow teachers and students of those high schools to continue and offer effective, efficient, and relevant teaching and learning in any forms, virtually or physically, during and post-COVID-19 era.

“When I cycled to this rural area, I found out that more than 100 teachers and 2000 students have been unable to teach and study either physically or virtually for more than a year since the outbreak of the COVID-19. Even a number of teachers own personal laptops, yet none of them are able to conduct online teaching using the resources available, because they lack the knowledge of digital literacy and 21st century education, which are essential in making their teaching and learning more effective, efficient, and relevant. To solve the remaining problem, we aim to provide technical equipment support and skills training to teachers and students so that classes can be resumed virtually during the COVID-19 era”, said Dr. Neak Chandarith, Head of department.

He further stated that “Thanks to Huawei Cambodia for the technical equipment supports including four laptops, four Huawei mobile routers, and five Huawei smartphones for the continuity of teaching and learning virtually and in the future, especially for the students and teachers to catch up with the digital technology. Also, this small pilot project will help to narrow the digital gaps between the city and the remote areas”. He also expected that more and more organizations and volunteers will participate into this project. And they will be able to help more and more students from the rural area.
