Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 27 – Indian Ambassador to Cambodia Devyani Khobragade said that she will inform top leaders of India to provide COVID19 vaccines to Cambodia.
The ambassador addressed the 72nd Republic Day of India at Raffles Le Royal in Phnom Penh on Tuesday.
"I have brought Prime Minister Hun Sen's request for Indian vaccine assistance to my leaders. COVID19 vaccines made in India have been shipped to some of India's neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. To further strengthen ties with Cambodia, I strongly believe India will provide some vaccines to Cambodia,"said Ambassador Devyani.
Cambodia-India relations dated back to a long history with many positive outcomes thanks to the shared civilization, culture and religion.
India was the country that supports Cambodia’s fight for the independence in 1950s, and in 1981, India established formal diplomatic relations with Cambodia and opened its embassy in Phnom Penh.
Regarding COVID19 vaccines from foreign governments, China has announced to provide 1 million doses of COVID19 vaccines. For the first phase, China will deliver 300,000 doses to Cambodia in February. The premier expects that 500,000 Cambodian people will be vaccinated before Khmer New Year in April 2021.
The Kingdom will consider purchasing vaccines from India, US, UK, and South Korea.
