Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 30 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen warned that the “Community 28 November” event, first-ever community transmission COVID19 case in the Kingdom, will bring a disaster if no effective measures were taken on a timely manner.
The announcement was made at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 38-line road construction in Siem Reap on Monday.
Samdech Hun Sen advised authorities and city-provincial governors to shut down any suspected locations.
The premier said “We have not found the root of infection of the family members of the Ministry of Interior's Director-general of prisons yet. It will be a disaster for our nation if we fail to take timely measures against this big issue.”
The premier announced today the 15-day campaign to fight against COVID19 resulted from "Community 28 November" event. He said the success in conquering the [Community 28 November] event requires people’s cooperation.
He hoped Cambodian people will join hand to fight “Community 28 November” event and be able to overcome this huge challenge together.
In a voice message addressed to governors of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap on Monday, the premier ordered to ban all meetings, social gatherings and wedding ceremonies, effective from 1-15 December 2020.
Health Ministry Spokeswoman Or Vandine dismissed a rumor claiming that the community transmission was from a wife of the Director-general, who returned from the United States and did not do self-quarantine.
Vandine said this is not a time to blame each other. She urge people nationwide to follow the safety guidelines set by the Ministry of Health.
To date, Cambodia has confirmed 323 cases of COVID19 with 301 recoveries and no death.
