Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 7 – On 4 September 2020, а newly appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Cambodia Н.Е. Mr. Anatoly Borovik presented the Letters of Credence to the King of Cambodia His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni.

During the audience granted by the King on that day, both sides touched upon the issues of strengthening friendly ties, deepening mutual trust and expanding cooperation in various areas.

The Russian ambassador praised the efforts of the Kingdom in fighting COVID19, and stressed the significance of multifaceted partnership between the two countries, especially active political dialogue. In this regard, the ambassador noted the historic visit by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Cambodia in November 2015, as well as the visit by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to Moscow and Sochi to attend the 20th ASEAN-Russia Summit and met President President in May 2016.

Ambassador Anatoly Borovik noted that this year both countries are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Russia-Cambodian Joint Declarations of the Bases of Friendly Relations (signed in 1995), while 2021 will mark the 65 years since the bilateral diplomatic relations established.

While discussing the bilateral cultural track, the ambassador recalled an arrangement of Days of Cambodian Culture in Russia in June 2019. He said that Moscow (where the event took place) warmly welcomed the Cambodians, who kindled interest of the local people in the ancient and rich culture of the Kingdom.

The Russian Ambassador Anatoly Borovik arrived to the Kingdom in late July, and in compliance with the Cambodian Ministry of Health recommendations stayed at the Embassy for а two-week quarantine. He replaced the former Ambassador Dmitry Tsvetkov who left Cambodia in May.
