Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 2 – Russia held a nationwide vote on approving changes to the Constitution of the Russian Federation on 1 July 2020.
In this connection, the Russian Embassy in Cambodia opened within its premises a voting district No. 1852, where its citizens living in the Kingdom could exercise their right to vote.
During the procedure, the Embassy implemented necessary sanitary measures to ensure health and safety of the voters amid COVID-19 pandemic, such as social distancing, masks, disinfectant and latex gloves provision. As part of COVID-19 disease control measure, from June 25, people had an opportunity to vote outside the voting room – in the Embassy’s Consular section.
A total of 103 Russian citizens residing permanently and staying temporarily in the Kingdom participated in voting: 61 of them supported the amendments to the Constitution, 41 – voted against them, and one voting ballot invalidated.
According to the preliminary results issued by the Russian Central Election Commission 1 July 2020, 65 percent of the overall number of registered individual voters took part in the referendum, with final results to be established after processing all protocols of Russian regions’ election commissions and considering submitted complaints.
