Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 16 – China will open a consulate in Sihanoukville, while Cambodia will open her consulate in Jinan of Shandong in China, according to a joint statement following the 5th Meeting of Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Coordination Committee.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong chaired the meeting via video conference held on 16 June 2020.
The establishments of the two consulates aim to facilitate movement of the two peoples while economic growth, trade, and other sectors are striving.
The joint statement added that the two sides agreed to strengthen governance through exchanging visits of senior leaders from both countries and work together to prevent the colour revolution.
In addition, the Chinese side reaffirmed its support to Cambodia in selecting her path of development based on realities to safeguard her territorial integrity, independence and social stability.
The Cambodian side also reaffirmed her adherence to China’s policy of “one country, two systems”, and supported the decision of the Chinese People's Congress to establish and strengthen a national legal system and enforcement mechanism in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in order to maintain national security.
At the same time, Cambodia-China also agreed to promote defence cooperation, negotiate on a memorandum of understanding on military health cooperation, and continued cooperation on key projects such as joint military exercises and military development.
The two sides pledge to promote law enforcement cooperation of the two countries and the function of the Coordination Committee in order to crackdown transnational crimes, including online gambling and cybercrimes.
