Geneva (FN), Jun. 4 – The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Geneva is utterly dismayed at the news release of Madam Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, dated on 03 June 2020, as for the freedom of expression in a dozen of Asia-Pacific countries, including Cambodia, during the Covid-19 crisis.
“Cambodia accords great importance to support, protect and promote freedom of expression and press guaranteed by the Constitution and Law on Press Regime, which ensure the independence of the press without prior censorship and with the rights to confidential source of information. However, Article 41 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Article 29 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights emphasise that the exercise of the rights carries with it special duties, responsibilities and limitations provided by law, when it comes to the protection of national security, public order, and public health and morals,” according to the Kingdom’s statement dated 3 June 2020.
