Phnom Penh (FN), May 18 – Keut Rith, the newly appointed Minister of Justice, warned of zero tolerance against corrupted judges, prosecutors and clerks during his campaign for speedier trial procedures at both the capital and provincial courts.

The statement was made at the press conference on Monday.

"We do not allow anyone to illegally take advantage of the campaign for personal gain. Therefore, we have zero tolerance policy against any judge, prosecutor, and court clerk who commits a misconduct and that they will be punished,” said Keut Rith.

He stressed that the Ministry of Justice has cooperated with Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to monitor whether corruption cases exist during the campaign.

It is worth noting that the Phnom Penh Municipal Court has over 39,000 active cases, of which 6,260 cases are related to drug.

Based on data from Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) alone, there are up to 12,000 outstanding cases since 2019. Each month, there is an average of 700-900 incoming cases and that many cases stuck unresolved.
