Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 16 – Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol told Fresh News Monday that four Cambodian river cruise ships, which were denied dockings by Vietnam, will arrive K'am Samnar International Checkpoint in Cambodia’s Kandal province at 5 p.m on 16 March 2020.
“The cruise ships will be anchored two kilometres from the shore for medical checks,” Minister Chanthol said.
According to the minister, there is another Cambodian cruise ship docking at K'am Samnar. The five cruise ships have 123 crew members and 77 passengers, mostly Europeans.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, on 15 March, ordered Minister Sun Chanthol to assist four Cambodia’s river cruise ships, which were refused dockings by Vietnam due to a fear of Covid-19.
“Four Cambodian ships carrying passengers from Siem Reap to Vietnam were stranded in the middle of the river in Vietnam. Vietnamese authorities denied our cruise ships to dock,” Phan Soben, owner of the cruises, wrote in the comment section of the premier’s Facebook on 15 March.
He added that his four ships had 90 crews and more than 60 passengers of mixed nationalities. The ships were facing shortages of water, fuel, and food.
