Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 10 – President of the United States Donald Trump sent an official letter to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on the postponement of the ASEAN-US Special Summit, which was set to be held in Las Vegas in March 2020.
“Thank you for welcoming my invitation to a special summit meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have been looking forward to this opportunity to advance our strategic partnership. ASEAN is central to my vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and the nearly one billion people of ASEAN and the United States are bound together by strong economic ties and shared values,” President Trump wrote in the letter addressed to Premier Hun Sen dated 2 March 2020.
“Unfortunately, we must postpone this summit in light of the global risks posed by the outbreak of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. I am sure we can all agree that our focus at this time must be on coordinating a global response that protects and secures the health and safety of our people,” President Trump added.
