Banteay Meanchey (FN), Feb. 26 – Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan, China has hindered the productivity and supply chain across the world, speaking Wednesday at the inauguration ceremony of National Road 58 held in Poipet city, which he co-chaired with Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian.
“The issue of China also brings issues to other countries. Covid-19 has hindered global supply chains,” he said.
Prime Minister Hun Sen stressed that factories in some countries have been closed as China is their main source of raw materials and that factories in Cambodia could face shutdown due to the lack of raw materials for production.
"60 percent of the fabric in Cambodia is imported from China, so I hope that His Excellency Wang Wentian will work with the Government of the People's Republic of China to send raw materials through ships or flights. This might help to prevent the closures of some factories in Cambodia," said the premier.
The premier took note of the declining of tourism sector. He said more than 100 million Chinese tourists travelled abroad, but the recent outbreak led to the declining number of Chinese tourists and thus affect hotels, restaurants, malls, and resorts worldwide.
Cambodia’s tourism figure also sees 90 percent drop of Chinese tourist, according to the premier.
