Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 22 – EU Ambassador to Cambodia Carmen Moreno pledged to promote and strengthen EU-Cambodia strategic cooperation for further development of Cambodia.

EU Ambassador Carmen Moreno met with Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth on 20 January 2020, according to the press release of the ministry.

Minister Pornmoniroth informed the ambassador that Cambodia currently enjoys strong macroeconomic stability with high economic growth. The Kingdom is moving robustly towards the vision of 2050 to become a high-income country, while on the way to achieve major reforms to become a higher middle-income country by 2030.

The minister continued that apart from Official Development Assistance that continues to play an important role for medium term, Cambodia needs economic diversification with key partners such as the EU, through cooperation with the private sector to attract trade and investment from Europe.

“Cambodia is striving to better understand Cambodia, enhance Cambodia's competitiveness, and improve infrastructure and environment for better investment in Cambodia to attract investors from Europe. In addition, Cambodia-EU should enhance people-to-people ties through tourism, cultural exchanges, human capacity building and professional training, and connectivity, both soft and hard,” Minister Pornmoniroth underlined.

In response, the ambassador highly commended the efforts made by the government in bringing fruitful results for the people. She pledged to deepen strategic cooperation between Cambodia-EU through implementing Cambodia’s development programs, particularly public financial management reform program and human resource training.
