Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 22 – On the afternoon of 21 January 2020, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) and Huawei Cambodia signed contract for donation of ICT equipment and 5G training programme.

The signing ceremony was held in Phnom Penh, represented by Secretary of State Sok Puthyvuth and CEO of Huawei Cambodia Yao Yuya signed the contract, witnessed by Minister Tram Iv Tek and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia Wang Wentian.

Minister congratulated the team from MPTC and Huawei for the tireless effort to make event happened and also expressed sincere appreciation to Huawei for your kind donation on equipment and services to the Royal Government of Cambodia through MPTC.

He stated, “Cambodia has achieved quite a strong and stable growth over the last two decades, with the emergence of Digital Economy and Industry Revolution 4.0, Cambodia has to speed up its economic transformation in order to sustain high and resilient growth for the long-term.

“The Ministry plays very important role to support the government to achieve the strategy policy vision to go for Digital Economy and prepare to catch up with the Industry Revolution 4.0 as highlighted in “Rectangular Strategy Phase 4” of the 6th mandate of the Royal Government of Cambodia.” “The products and services provided to MPTC today will be used to its maximum effect with efficiency. And I hope that the cooperation between MPTC and Huawei will growth stronger and stronger.” Minister Tram Iv Tek emphasized.

CEO from Huawei Cambodia said, “As the global leading ICT supplier and responsible corporate citizen in Cambodia, Huawei actively undertakes calls from Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Cambodian government to support “Digital Cambodia” Strategy and long-term cultivation for Digital Talents. Based on the previous agreement between Prime Minister and Huawei leadership, Huawei is very pleased to support MPTC by donating the new Data Center facility, Video Conference system, Fiber to the Office equipment and Huawei laptops for central and provincial government offices on the occasion of the New Year 2020.”

“We can say 2020 is the milestone year for Cambodia 5G development and we are so pleased to be part of it. Huawei is ready to provide the Ministry with 30 quotas of 5G Training, which is a customized programme for Cambodian telecom officials to enable them to understand 5G technologies and its latest application. Looking ahead, today marks the new start for the cooperation between the Ministry and Huawei Cambodia to upgrade their digitalization,” he continued.

The CEO added that “Huawei will carry on with the vision to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully-connected, intelligent Cambodia, We will continuously invest in 5G, broadband, cloud, artificial intelligence, and smart devices, to help our customers maximize the benefits of these emerging technologies, especially 5G, which will be one of the most important enablers serving as the foundation for upgraded, intelligent national digitalization.”

Sok Puthyvuth said, “I would like to express appreciation to Huawei for their kind contribution to the development of ICT related activities in the Kingdom of Cambodia. As MPTC is playing an important role in providing ICT related services to other government organizations in Cambodia, the support from Huawei this time will definitely improve our existing portfolios.”
He underlined that “The availability of ICT and network-based services offer a number of advantages for the society in general. The development of cheaper infrastructure technologies has enabled us to offer Internet services to more people. The popularity of the Internet and its services is growing fast and according to Telecom Regulator of Cambodia.”

According to the secretary of state, as of 31 December 2019, it is estimated that 16,7 Million users have access to mobile Internet while only 215 thousand with fixed internet access users.

Taking the advantages of number of internet users, government and private sectors are currently moving their manual services to online services with the common goal to provide better, faster, effective and efficient services for citizens and customers.”
