Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 13 – The new Swedish Ambassador to Cambodia Björn Häggmark pledged to cooperate with Cambodian on labour and vocational training sector.
Ambassador Björn Häggmark met with Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Sam Heng on Monday.
Both sides highly commended the fruitful cooperation in the field of labour and vocational training in the past, stressing that the sector contributes to harmony in employments and social development.
The ambassador commits to implement employment and vocational training programs in Cambodia under the framework of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, which so far helps Cambodia develop many employment hubs in the provinces.
In response, Minister Ith Samheng informed the ambassador that Cambodia has been actively supporting the Sweden’s Global Deal – a global initiative aimed at jointly addressing challenges in the labour market and enhanced social dialogue to foster decent work, productive, and quality jobs.
Sweden was one of the first countries to provide humanitarian support to Cambodia after the fall of the Khmer Rouge in 1979. The long-term development cooperation began in the 1990s. It focuses on democracy and human rights, education and labour market issues, as well as the environment, sustainable natural resource management and climate, according to SIDA.
