Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 12 – From 6-10 January 2020, officials from Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia (MPTC) was invited by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) to join the 5G training course customized by CAICT in Beijing.
Founded in 1957, CAICT is a scientific research institute directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China. CAICT has provided strong support for major strategies, plans, policies, standards, tests and certification for the development of the national ICT sector and the IT application.
The 5G training course, designed by CAICT, aimed at providing MPTC officials with the Chinese national policy for supporting 5G development and latest update about global 5G deployment, in China and other countries.
The five-day training covered abundant 5G topics, such as 5G Strategies and Industry Development, 5G Standard and Technologies, 5G Infrastructure Sharing and Better experience with lower tariff, 5G Spectrum Plan and Management, 5G Services and Applications, 5G Industrial Applications in Enterprise, 5G Cyber Security.
Besides China Unicom and China Telecom representatives also shared their experience of 5G commercial deployment in China and sincerely wish Cambodia could launch 5G in 2020.
Sok Puthyvuth, secretary of state of MPTC was invited to join the last two days training and the closing ceremony. Puthyvuth also met with Mr. Lu Jianwen, deputy director general, Department of International Cooperation of MIIT, Mr. Wang Zhiqin, vice president of CAICT, and Mr. Victor Zhang, CTO of Huawei Cambodia, and the parties above had an in-depth discussion on 5G development model in Cambodia from the perspective from MIIT, CAICT, Huawei.
“5G is the key digital infrastructure to build a fully connected, intelligent Cambodia, and Cambodian government is determined to push 5G roadmap and launch 5G commercial use in 2020. The 5G training course is helpful for Cambodia government to draft the 5G roadmap, policies and regulations. I believed that 4G changes the life, 5G will change the whole society,” Puthyvuth said.
He continued, “In the upcoming months, MPTC will work unremittingly on the formulation of Cambodia 5G roadmap and is committed to pushing forward Cambodia 5G development in 2020.”
“By the end of 2019, all the mainstream operators in Cambodia have initiated the 5G trial and are eager to launch the commercial 5G in early 2020. The rapid development and maturity of 5G industry chain will not only promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, but also give birth to a number of new formats and modes. The 5G technology has become a new engine that will lead the future of digital transformation and will push Cambodia to embrace for Fourth Industry Revolution which would contribute to realize the vision 2050 set by Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen for Cambodia to be high income country,” he added.
After the closing ceremony, Sok Puthyvuth and officials from MPTC also visited Huawei’s Beijing Executive Briefing Center that showcased the latest 5G products, solutions and use cases for the global market.
During the visit, Puthyvuth and delegates was briefed on Huawei’s 5G products and solutions including Smart City, Smart Education, Smart Health, and other Smart Public Utilities that would benefit to improve efficiency and quality of life.
As of January 2020, Huawei has signed 60 contracts with global operators and shipped more than 400,000 base stations. As the global leading 5G vendor, Huawei has been operating in Cambodia more than 20 years, and will stand firmly with Cambodia government, operators and partners to forge ahead for building a fully connected, intelligent Cambodia.
