Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 4 – The US Embassy and the Australian Embassy in Cambodia shared their condolences to the families of the victims of a recent six-storey building collapse in Kep.

"The US Embassy is very saddened to see breaking news of a building collapse late today in the coastal town of Kep. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of victims and others impacted, and we express full support for ongoing rescue efforts,” US Embassy Phnom Penh Facebook page wrote on Saturday.

"The Australian Embassy offers our condolences to the victims of the building collapse in Kep and extends our sympathies to their families. We send our thoughts and prayers for the rescue and recovery operation. We remain committed to working with Cambodia to improve construction safety standards,” Australian Embassy wrote on its Facebook page on 4 January 2020.

It is worth noting that an under-construction building in the coastal province Kep, about 170 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, collapsed around 4:30 pm on 3 January 2020.

Approximately 20-30 workers were reportedly trapped in the rubble building 90 percent completed, according to Kep Police Chief Pen Dara.
