Tbong Khmum (FN), Dec. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen advised governor of Tbong Khmum province to put all efforts to prevent the Cambodia-Vietnam “Da Market” from bankruptcy; otherwise, his governorship will be terminated.
The premier addressed at the inauguration of Da Market in Tbong Khmum province on Tuesday morning, which he co-chaired with Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Trinh Dinh Dung.
“This is the first model market. If it fails, other markets in the plan will not be made possible, so the governor must put efforts or else lose the office,” the premier warned.
The two-hectare Cambodia-Vietnam border market is located in Tbong Khmum Special Economic Zone, Memot district, approximately 300 meters from the border. The site is a former battlefield where Comrade Hun Sen fought 20 times in 1971.
The market began its construction in 2018 with USD 2 million fund by the Vietnamese Government.
Cambodia-Vietnam bilateral trade reached USD 4.7 billion in 2018, increased by 24 percent compared to 2017. During the first six months of 2019, the trade reached USD 2.7 billion. The two countries aim to reach USD 5 billion per annum.
