Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 17 – Chan Chen, lawyer of former opposition leader Kem Sokha, said that his client has always abided legal procedures; yet, he could not confirm whether Sokha will attend the treason trial on 15 January 2020, speaking to the press on Tuesday.
"My client is a law-abiding person, a Buddhist follower, but I am not sure yet [whether he will attend the hearing,” Chan Chen answered reporters’ question.
Phnom Penh Municipal Court, on Monday, issued a press release to send Kem Sokha to trial at 8:30 a.m on 15 January 2020, to be held in room 1.
The court has closed investigation on the alleged treason case of Kem Sokha on 15 November 2019.
Kem Sokha, president of the court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), has been accused of conspiring with foreigners to topple the legitimate Royal Government of Cambodia.
