Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said he initiated a joint Cambodia-Vietnam disaster rescue exercises to strengthen disaster rescue capabilities for the interests of the people at borders, addressing at the graduation ceremony for medical students at Koh Pich, Phnom Penh on Monday morning.

“The occurrence of disaster like earthquakes at ASEAN countries’ border are unpredictable; therefore, we must be prepared in advance,” said Prime Minister Hun Sen.

“This (exercise) is Hun Sen's initiative, for I want to protect my people from danger. Cross-border assistance in the case of wildfires will not be accused of trespassing,” he added.

The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and the People’s Army of Vietnam will hold a one-day joint disaster rescue exercises on 18 December 2019 in the kingdom’s Svay Rieng province and Vietnam’s Long An, aimed for further collaboration to strengthen their rescue capabilities in the event of floods and forest fires and to maintain peace, order, and stability in the neighbouring countries, according to the premier.

After successfully implemented the Win-Win policy, Strongman Hun Sen had two major goals – to transform all former battlefields into markets; and develop border areas into zones of peace, friendship, and development.
