Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 29 – The Union of Journalist Federations of Cambodia (UJFC) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Cambodian Committee for Media Assessment (CCMA) which would play a key role in promoting and evaluating press freedom and media space in Cambodia to promote high quality, professional investigative journalism, according to UJFC's press release dated Monday.

"CCMA was formed in the 2nd Congress of UJFC on October 12, 2019 with unanimous support from Cambodia’s most active seasoned journalists. This is the first time in the history of the media in Cambodia that we design our own self-assessment mechanism, and acknowledge strengths and weaknesses for improvement through in-depth consultation with relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of journalism," it said.

"Free press does play a critical role in the democratic process and contributes to the development of a prosperous, responsible, harmonious and sustainable society. As journalists and citizens of a nation, we should not keep silent and read only biased reports of foreign agencies evaluating the state of journalism in the Kingdom of Cambodia using their principles while overlooking their immediate domestic issues," it continued.
