Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 1 - Cambodian graduate from the US’ West Point Military Academy, on Tuesday, rejected Sam Rainsy’s claims over Hun Manet’s fake degree from West Point.

Meach Sithyka, the second Khmer student to graduate from West Point after Hun Manet, claimed that West Point Military Academy does not provide two types of degree as Sam Rainsy has claimed; both local and international students could be expelled from the university immediately if they cannot catch up with the group.

“My senior [Hun Manet, my younger brother, and I had struggled for four years to complete the degree with equal value,” Sithyka wrote on her Facebook account on Tuesday.

“Rainsy’s words really look down on Khmer nationality which he thinks Khmer can not do and must have different standards from other nationalities,” she added.

“It is truly offensive to hear those words and even more offensive to think that it is being used to validate his policies, which should be about greater social issues instead of lie mongering. Shame.” Sithyka wrote in English.

On 28 September 2019, Rainsy told supporters in the US: “Manet’s degree is a 2nd degree and was given for diplomatic reasons as the US wanted to build good relations. They give this to the sons of foreign prime ministers and presidents to show off in their home countries.”

In response, General Hun Manet, on Monday, called out Rainsy to wager with him over allegations that his from West Point was a fake one, but Sam Rainsy denied.

“The real knowledge and expertise are shown through practical achievement and accountability without the needs to swear or wager like kids,” Sam Rainsy wrote on Facebook on 30 September 2019.

In the same statement, Rainsy said “Hun Sen and his family provide bad examples for the Cambodian youth and the education system in Cambodia by boasting their fake degrees or second-class diplomas associated with lower level education compared to the standard level.”
