Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 26 – The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, Rhona Smith, declared to oppose former opposition leader Sam Rainsy‘s plan to topple Hun Sen’s Government, addressing at the 42nd UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva on 25 September 2019.

“The CNRP co-founder Sam Rainsy, who has been in exile since 2015, has continued to use hostile language against Prime Minister Hun Sen and other people, including appealing to Cambodian citizens to topple the government, which I certainly do not support,” said Rhona Smith.

Sam Rainsy has continuously called for illegal rebels to join him to topple the legitimate government and insulted His Majesty the King and constitutional monarchy.

The press release of the prosecution attached to Phnom Penh municipal court dated today, Thursday, announced court’s decision to allegedly charged Sam Rainsy and eight of his accomplices with “Stage a Coup” through a plan to repatriate from exile on 9 November, the occasion of the Independence Day of Cambodia.
