Bali, Indonesia (FN), Sept. 5 - Dr. Chea Vandeth, chairman of the National Assembly's Commission of Planning, Investment, Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment and Water Resources led the Cambodian delegates to attend World Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development (WPFSD) in Kuta, Bali, on  4-5 September 2019.

Initiated in 2017, this year’s event is themed, “Combating Inequality through Social and Financial Inclusion” with the participations from several parliament chairmen, such as from Portuguese, Gambia, Timor Leste, and Saudi Arabia, as well as representatives of international organizations around the world, including President of the lnter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriella Cuevas Barron.

The forum discussed three key topics: (1) the ability to foster equal opportunities by focusing on the role of industrial infrastructure and innovation as a foundation to eradicate inequality and create a vibrant community; (2) securing access to safe and clean drinking water in rural areas; and (3) strengthening financial partnerships by focusing on methods and means with accountability.

Head of DPR's Inter-Parliamentary Partnership Agency (BKSAP) and Chief Committee WPFSD Nurhayati Ali Assegaf noted that the parliament played a significant role in adopting universal, inclusive, and sustainable development policies to ensure that no one would be left behind as it forges ahead to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

Dr. Chea Vandeth reiterated Cambodia's position and commitment to fighting inequality in line with the tenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Indeed, two of Cambodia's initiatives are aimed at poverty alleviation and social protection, expressed in the form Rectangular Strategy phase IV for growth, employment, equity and efficiency and social protection policies 2016-2025.

Dr. Chea Vandeth also shared inputs to strengthening the roles of parliament in implementing policies and legal frameworks to ensure collective benefits for all citizens.
