Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 13 – Cambodian youth volunteer of Asian Cultural Council attended a leadership conference “Providing Vision and Leadership for Nation-Building and Peace”, held in Bangkok, Thailand from 9-12 August 2019, organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) – an NGO in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
At least 30 participants from Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia; including two special guests from State Parliament of Myanmar and advisor to Cambodia’s second vice-president of the National Assembly attended the conference.
The conference aims to equip Asian Cultural Council youth volunteer with the innovative and bold leadership to effectively address the critical issues in the 21st century; and for them to play a vital role in peace building in families, nations, and world.
During the conference, youth interactively discussed the core Principles of Peace that apply equally to families, societies, nations and the world. These Principles, focusing on sustainable peace building, are rooted in the family and are applicable in every area of life. Youth also learnt theories of peace and nation building from Regional Group Chairman UPF & FFWPU Dr Chung Sik Yong, who spoke about the “Attributes of True Love” and “Become a True Peace Maker”; and Dr. Ursula McLackland “The Importance of Marriage and Family for Society”.
"It is very important for our youth volunteer of Asian Cultural Council and myself to attend and understand the core values of peace and love. Indeed, global peace starts from a true love in each family," stated Uy Samphallarith, advisor to Cambdodia's second vice-president of the National Assembly and head of the delegation.
One point to take home – “True love is a love that seeks to give and forget, to give, forget, and give again; a love that seeks to give, forget, and when it can no longer give, grieves and sheds tears.”

The second UPF Asia Pacific Summit 2019 will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 19-20 November 2019.
About the Asian Cultural Council
The ACC was established in 2018 by the International Conference of Asia Political Parties (ICAPP) and has representation from more than 350 political parties from 52 countries across the region.
ACC is recognized by UNESCO after the tripartite agreement – between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), ICAPP, and ACC—was signed on 4 December 2018 in Siem Reap.
