Phnom Penh (FN), August 7 – At the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, paid a state visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 07 to 10 August 2019, according to Cambodian foreign affairs press release dated Tuesday.
The president landed Phnom Penh at 11 a.m on Wednesday.
“President Maithripala Sirisena will have a royal audience with His Majesty the King of Cambodia at the Royal Palace and have a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen, during which various fields of bilateral cooperation will be discussed, aiming to further strengthen friendly ties between the two countries which are deeply connected through Buddhism. The two Leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern and interest.”
“President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Hun Sen will witness the signing of a number of cooperation documents,” the press release stated.
“During his stay in Cambodia, President Maithripala Sirisena will visit Wat Lanka Preah Kosamaram and present to the Most Venerable Samdech Preah Maha Ariyavamsa Sao Chanthol a sapling of the sacred Wijaya Sri Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Subsequently, he will attend Na-Tree Planting ceremony at the Meditation Center of Oudong Mountain which received a gift of 10 Na Trees from the President. President Maithripala Sirisena and members of his delegation will also visit the temples in the Angkor Archeological Park, Siem Reap province,” it continued.
President Maithripala Sirisena’s first visit to Cambodia will significantly strengthen the bonds of friendship and expand cooperation in economic, trade, tourism, and cultural fields between Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
