Phnom Penh (FN), August 2 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that other political parties are still welcome to join Supreme Council for Consultations (SCC), speaking Friday at the cabinet’s meeting at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh, according to government spokesperson Phay Siphan.

SCC is the only special platform to summon state institutions to question, besides the parliament, the premier underlined.

SCC was established by a Royal Decree dated 6 September 2018, at the request of Prime Minister Hun Sen following the sixth national election. SCC comprises of 16 among 20 political parties that raced in Cambodian general elections in 2018.

SCC's purpose is to mobilize human resources and constructive ideas for socio-economic development, the prime minister said, adding that the council has duties to provide opinion on government policies, give feedback on draft laws, and report on inaction or violations by government officials.

In addition, members of the SCC are active in solving problems for people, especially on land disputes in the provinces.
