Phnom Penh (FN), July 17 – Minister of Interior Sar Kheng’s lawyers urged the Phnom Penh municipal court to seriously punish Sam Rainsy, former opposition leader, over the alleged incitement.

The urge was made Wednesday when the three lawyers, Hak Seakly, Chao Bun Hourn, and Pich Soriya, clarified to court.

Phnom Penh municipal court also issued an order to summon Sam Rainsy to clarify on 31 July 2019 over alleged incitement by using the name of former police chief Hok Lundy.

On 6 July, Minister of Interior Sar Kheng filed a lawsuit against Sam Rainsy for the incitement that would lead to social insecurity and political instability. He requested the court to sentence Rainsy according to the law and demanded a compensation of USD 1 million.

"Sam Rainsy’s accusation was made in order to cause disunity among senior leaders of the Royal Government, leading to chaos, social insecurity, and political instability,” Minister Kheng wrote in a lawsuit.

It is worth noting that Sam Rainsy wrote on Facebook on 2 June that: “Hun Sen murdered the former police chief Hok Lundy by planting the bomb in the helicopter while he [Lundy] was flying over Svay Rieng province on 9 November 2008.”

“Dy Vichea [Lundy’s son] is thinking about the plan on how to take revenge for his father,” Rainsy said.

“This plan was supported by [Interior Minister] Sar Kheng, as Sar Kheng also knows that Hun Sen is preparing to remove him,” Rainsy added.

Kheng stated that it was his first lawsuit ever in his life. The lawsuit aimed at urging all politicians to strictly follow the political code of conduct; to uphold professionalism and dignity; and to avoid incitement that led to national unity.
