Phnom Penh (FN), July 2 – African swine fever hit Tbong Khmum province, about 150km east of Phnom Penh, sharing an international border with Vietnam.
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, on Tuesday, announced to destroy all the pigs in two villages, Kompong Serey and Soy of Ou Reang Ov district; and temporarily halt the rearing of pigs, buy-sell, and transports of pigs and pork.
In late April, African swine fever had spread from Vietnam to Cambodia’s Ratanakiri province. Senior official of Ministry of Agriculture said that since the arrival of African swine fever on 22 March 2019, at least 400 pigs in Ou Ya Dav district, which were imported from Vietnam, died.
Health ministry spokesman Ly Sovann said African swine fever has not yet been known to infect humans.
According to statistics, Cambodia consumes 4,000-5,000 pigs per day. Among those, 1,000-2,000 is imported.
