Phnom Penh (FN), May 7 - Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn expressed hope that the report of Special Rapporteur on human rights situation in Cambodia, Professor Rhona Smith, reflects the real situations in Cambodia, the ministry's spokesman Ket Sophann said Tuesday following the meeting held at the ministry.

The Special Rapporteur said that since the Royal Government released measures to strengthen democracy on 3 December 2018, situations in Cambodia have improved noticeably. She reminded that promoting human rights is the obligation of the government.

Rhona Smith was proud that Cambodia has ratified the most numbers of treaties on human rights, compared to other countries in Asia.

She also thanked the Foreign Ministry for facilitating her in meeting with senior officials of the Royal Government, representatives of civil society organizations, and members of the diplomatic community.

Professor Rhona Smith visits Cambodia from 29 April to 9 May 2019 to continue her examination of human rights with respect to the Sustainable Development Goals, looking in particular at non-discrimination and equality, and participation and accountability and present her next report to the council in September.
