Phnom Penh (FN) May 4 - Investigating judge Pich Vichethor, on Saturday, ordered to temporarily detain the drunk police officer who opened fire against a couple on Thursday.

Court allegedly accused Duong Nakry, of "premeditated murder" and "unauthorized use of weapons".

If convicted, Nakry will serve 10 to 15 years for the first crime he committed and additional six months to two years for the latter crime.

The suspect, 47, deputy director of criminal investigation department at the Ministry of Interior, was arrested by Chbar Ampov district police on Thursday for firing five bullets at a couple and damaged their Range Rover.

The two victims were identified by the police as Phoris Storann, 34, director of a security company living in Prek Pra commune, and his wife Taing Sokleng, 31.

At about 12am on Thursday, Phoris Storann was driving his Range Rover with his wife from Phsar Doeumkor to his home in Chbar Ampov district. When Storann was in front of the now-closed Rock Entertainment, Nakry, who was drunk driving a Lexus 330, chased after them and stopped in front of their car, accused the victim of overtaking him.

Nakry ordered Storann to get out of his car and apologise to him, but Storann refused and denied that he did not overtake Nakry. At about 1am in Chbar Ampov district’s Nirot commune, Nakry managed to stop the victims again. Nakry walked toward the victims’ Range Rover and fired five bullets completely destroying the rear window.

Storan’s wife fainted and was taken to a hospital emergency room. The latest update confirmed this Friday that she had a miscarriage of the three-month old baby.
